Once a product is packaged it is virtually impossible for an operator to visibly spot any possible contamination. Stringent safety laws quite rightly demand the general public are protected from such issues and this has been one of the main drivers for innovation in metal detection technology.
CEIA, represented in the UK by MDS, has developed multi-spectrum technology that is highly sensitive to both magnetic and non-magnetic contaminants, including stainless steel and Aluminium.
This metal contaminant can sometimes be very difficult for X-Ray to detect as effectively as a metal detector like the CEIA THS 21 series. They are widely used for final product inspection in all areas of the food processing industry.
Multi-spectrum units operate in a way which differs from the typical industrial food industry metal detector, they are not restricted to the use of single or dual frequencies and are not limited to the selection of a frequency from a hardware based range. By using multiple frequencies at the same time, CEIA have consistently seen an advantage over conventional units which only use one of their available frequencies at any one time. This gives them an increased accuracy of as much as half the diameter or one eighth the volume of any contaminant present in the product flow.
Your Food Industry Metal Detector:
Food industry metal detectors such as the CEIA THS21 also incorporate self-learning and self-testing technology that ensures a consistent performance over time, as the unit constantly compares and adjusts the detection characteristics. This ensures that changes to the environmental conditions such as fluctuations in temperature and moisture levels, do not negatively impact the detection accuracy.
The CEIA detectors can be installed into a conveyorised process line and can be closely integrated with packaging and checkweighing equipment.
Control system integration options include a signal that can be used in conjunction with the infeed and outfeed control to allow for the accurate ejection of any detected contamination. Automatic reject devices can be installed to take the product away to a suitable container.
Data logging is also available both to local operators and to centralised control systems and can form part of the company’s quality control procedures.
